About the Author
Michele Wong McSween is a mom, fashion designer, author and a fourth generation Chinese American. She resides in Brooklyn, NY with her husband, three sons, and French Bulldog. McSween holds degrees from University of California at Berkeley and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Growing up in Sacramento, CA, she never learned Chinese and wanted to be sure her own boys were confident with Chinese language and culture. After enrolling them in early-learning Mandarin classes, McSween looked for appropriate Mandarin bedtime reading and found that little was available. She created Gordon & Li Li with an appealing, simple and modern design aesthetic that would engage kids and parents alike.

A great introduction to everyday Mandarin

My 2 year-old loves this book! He's been watching Ni Hao, Kai Lan and was really excited to expand his Mandarin vocabulary. He has about 10 words now and is using them interchangeably with English; it's been wonderful to see his functional language expand!
My only complaint is that you really do need to know how to read Pinyin to get anything out of this book, but since Pinyin is really not too difficult, it's worth it if you want to introduce your child to Mandarin.

aged 3 and 1 love to look through it everyday

The pictures are very cute and the words are in English, pinyin, a "sound out" version of pin yin, and the Chinese character, simplified. My sons, aged 3 and 1 love to look through it everyday. I like it so much I plan to give it to friends and family with kids who are interested in learning Mandarin.

Great first book!

I purchased this book to help my son learn Mandarin. It's definitely a great book if you already speak Mandarin and want to teach it to your children. It may be a little difficult if you don't speak Mandarin.
My son enjoys the pictures in it as well.
