Short and sexy

Handling Cynthia is a novella length BDSM romance that is a good quick read. It's a sweet second chance romance, but it also has a spicy, sexy side to it. This book only spans a few days and takes place at a high school reunion, where Cynthia is hoping for a second chance with Trent. Five years ago she ran from him when he kissed her before they left for college as was confused by her feelings when Trent restrained her hands during the kiss. But now she has come to terms with her submissive nature and hopes for more dominance from Trent during the reunion weekend.

The chemistry between Cynthia and Trent is hot, and I enjoyed the sexual tension between them. I liked both of the main characters, although Trent did annoy me at times. He has very little experience as a Dom so makes a few mistakes with Cynthia - mainly due to listening to advice from the internet, rather than listeria to what she wants and needs. There were some steamy, well written scenes in this book which were hot, hot, hot.

I liked the author's writing style, it was easy to read and the story flowed well. I'm hoping there will be a sequel to this book so we can see what the future holds for Trent and Cynthia, as this couple definitely still have a story to tell. Handling Cynthia is an enjoyable, quick read that gets four out of five stars.

especially when the heroine is having a hard time dealing with her desires for her love interest. It's a fun read

I received a complimentary review copy at my request when I saw the blurb included the phrase "erotic bowling."

Say what?
Erotic bowling?
What does that even mean?

Turns out it's more flirtatious bowling. And it's well done.

This is a classic second chances story with a lot of emotional seesawing -- Do they or don't they? The twist here is that both of them are very BDSM-curious. This isn't a story of a virginal girl and a self-centered experienced Dom. Thank goodness. There are plenty of those to go around. This is a story about two people who think they want to explore aspects of their sexuality with each other, but aren't sure how to approach the topic.

I found the characters interesting and the thoughts in both of their heads about how to go from friends to lovers believable.

The only part I didn't really buy is the nerdy guy in high school who is secretly a sub. First off, what are the odds. Secondly, the really frank conversation in the hallway of a bowling alley that the heroine and the nerdy sub have about BDSM didn't seem natural to me, especially when the heroine is having a hard time dealing with her desires for her love interest.

It's a fun read.

An engaging and inspiring qualitative methods book for students and teachers alike

I had the good fortune to use an early draft of Sarah Tracy's Qualitative Research Methods text when I was a graduate student. In particular, I appreciated the accessible language, myriad examples, and comprehensive set of resources that address the entire process of conducting qualitative research from understanding theory/paradigm to data collection, analysis and writing.

Compared to other qualitative methods texts, I found Dr. Tracy's style to be engaging and I appreciated the way she explained complex concepts by using her own and other colleagues'/students' research projects. The chapters on data analysis also make her book stand out from other texts I've read. Not only does the book offer a solid grounding in how to collect data, it illustrates basic and advanced methods to make meaning from data and develop arguments for various audiences--Really helpful when sitting with a giant pile of interviews/fieldnotes and feeling overwhelmed!

Having assisted Dr. Tracy in teaching a graduate qualitative methods course, I look forward to using the book and accompanying teacher resource manual in my own classes in the future.

Academic text with practical applications

This academic text covers all current qualitative research methods including in-depth interviews, focus groups, and the latest cutting edge digital methods. The chapter on how to analyze qualitative data is complete and detailed, and that alone makes this book worth owning if you plan on doing a lot of qualitative data analysis. If you do have a lot of qualitative data analysis in front of you, and if you enjoy doing so... well, I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round.

About the Author
Rod Heikell was born in New Zealand in 1949 and sailed hesitantly around bits of it's coast in a variety of yachts. He tried racing in the Hauraki Gulf but was really not much good at it. In England he abandoned academic life and for no good reason other than curiosity, he bought Roulette, a 1950's plywood JOG yacht nearly 20ft long, and sailed it down to the Mediterranean. He worked on charter here and delivered yachts until, in ignorance of the scale of the task, he set off to write a yachtsman's guide to Greece. This was followed by guides for other countries in the Mediterranean. He has sailed back and forth between England and the Mediterranean including a trip down the Danube and on to Turkey in Rosinante, an 18ft Mirror Offshore. In 1996 he took his fourth yacht, his beloved Tetra, to SE Asia and back for the research for Indian Ocean Cruising Guide. Apart from sailing the 'wrong' way and back again the 'right' way across the Indian Ocean in Tetranora, his beloved 31ft Cheverton New Campaigner, he has done two transatlantics in seven tenths and two transatlantics on Skylax, his present yacht. He has also cruised extensively in other parts of the world on other yachts. Skylax is now back in the Mediterranean after her circumnavigation being readied for new adventures. He always returns to the Mediterranean, his favourite cruising grounds, where with his wife Lu he updates his guides on the area. His latest books are The Trade Wind Foodie and The Accidental Sailor. Some of these books have been translated into French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian and Turkish. Also edits the Imray-Tetra chart series for the eastern Mediterranean. Articles have appeared in Yachting World, Yachting Monthly, Practical Boat Owner, Sailing Today, Yacht, Sail, and other magazines

Too much in someways, not enough in others

Not as thoughtfully detailed as his Croatia cruising guide. Not as many details for what to do ashore, things to visit and places to eat. This change a lot in local venues, so you cannot rely solely on this guide that may not be current. It is way to heavy to travel with so I had to photocopy the pages that I wanted. Maybe better for someone on an extended trip. For people who bareboat for a week at a time, this is a bit overkill

Not good, not bad - it's just there is nothing else available on the subject

Heikell is still having some sort of a monopoly on that subject. So if you are going to sail in that water, you could not avoid this book. There is simply nothing else to compare it to. Despite the fact that it's professionally done with a lot of research and work behind it, I found it very limited. It tends to be all the same ("the port is very crowded - don't go there") comments. I still remember my Greece sailing experience (Wonder who is the author of "The Greek Water Pilot?" You bet, - Heikell). If I would be following Heikell suggestions we would never anchor in "extremely crowded" port of Hydra, and we would miss one of the most beautiful Greek islands everybody from our charter still remember. Everything is crowded in Mediterranean in summer. If it's bothers you, don't go there.

Extraordinary Book on St. Luke and His Gospel

Author Taylor Caldwell wrote this book in 1959. It is about the life of Lucanus, the Greek physician who wrote the Biblical Gospel of Luke. Caldwell writes her immensely detailed narrative as though she experienced the events herself. In fact, in the 1970's she revealed she had visions or recollections of past lives which helped her write this book. The book is purely fiction, as very little is actually known about Luke. Caldwell uses her considerable skills to recreate the life of Luke in a ficticious account that takes Luke from his birth to his Christian conversion, his quest to investigate the details of Christ's life, and finally, the writing of the Gospel that bears his name. The reader will either love this book or hate it, mainly because Caldwell writes with such precise detail, so that at times the story gets bogged down in going forward. Personally, I loved the book. Despite Caldwell's visions of past lives, this book remains true to a Christian perspective. In such, I consider it Christian historical fiction.

Caldwell wrote a number of other Christian historical fiction accounts, Great Lion of God, I, Judas, but this book on Luke is perhaps the best of the group.

Loved it the first time and even better this time

I had read this book as a teenager when it was first published. Loved it the first time and even better this time. The original reading gave me a love for novels with that historical /biblical /fictional flavor that have been part of my reading joy ever since. Caldwell's decriptive abilities always put me right in the middle of the scene.
