Encouragingly, in recent years there are signs of an increased awareness amongst theoreticians of the need to confront predictions with observed epidemiological trends, and to pay elose attention to the biological details of the interaction between host and disease agent. This trend has in part been stimulated by the early work of Ross and Macdonald, on the transmission dynamics of tropical parasitic infections, but a further impetus has been the recent advances made by ecologists in blending theory and observation in the study of plant and animal populations.

Words of wisdom from a top producing broker

Dustan truly practices what he preaches - there is no resource like this for our industry. I can understand why he's a top producing broker. I appreciated his courage and openness in sharing the challenges that he faced starting out in 2008. It is these challenges that motivated him to become a better version of himself and do whatever it takes to get the job done. I have much respect for him. Can't wait to read Volume 2!

Dustan's truly a professional! He's put in way more than the 10,000 hrs commonly need to Master an area of business. Love his dedication, and his devotion to his clients and the effort he puts in to his business. In business, it's all about adding value to the public and he's clearly done this with this book!

Top mortgage broker shares his secrets for success

Who would have thought a niche topic like becoming a better mortgage broker has the potential to be a best seller? Yet, I have no doubt that is exactly what Dustan Woodhouse has created here. I envision most major Canadian mortgage brokerage firms making this series of books required reading for all aspiring mortgage brokers.

In fact, I only have one ‘complaint’, and that is I wish Dustan had already written volumes two and three of this captivating series.

There are so many takeaways from this book, it is hard to come up with a list of the highlights. But for me, they are as follows:
Chapter 4 is called “Three things we wish we had known”. Here Dustan asks twenty one brokers to identify the top three things they wish they had been told before taking the course, let alone entering the business.

A recurring theme from this chapter; indeed throughout the book, is that our industry is generally woeful when it comes to preparing newbies to be successful in the real world of mortgage brokering. With respect, the licensing course is a formality, and does nothing to ensure success in the real world.

Mentoring is hugely important, yet is rarely seen and done. Dustan laments “the fact is that currently the industry lacks robust training.”
The bulk of volume 1 is mostly about Dustan’s tenets for personal success. He generously shares all the little things he does routinely which collectively add up to make him a super-focused, highly disciplined sales machine. He might object to this characterization, as he repeatedly emphasizes it’s all about doing the right thing for the client, and success will follow.

It’s not necessary to replicate everything Dustan does – some of it may not feel comfortable or natural. But clearly he is not simply stumbling along in his pursuit of greatness – he has a plan, a vision of who he is, and how he wishes to be perceived, and his actions and approach to his business are all consistent with this.

Another recurring theme is about self-discipline – in today’s techno world, so many of us allow ourselves to be distracted throughout our day. Twelve hours at work may actually only translate to a few hours of productivity. Personally I feel this is a societal problem – certainly not limited to mortgage brokers. Dustan has mastered his own domain, and he is correct it is a huge area for improvement for practically all of us.

I came into the industry a few years before Dustan, yet his achievements make my own pale in comparison. However, I feel inspired by his writing and sincerely cannot wait to channel the knowledge he plans to share in volumes two and three.

Henry Tischler, Ph.D., Henry Tischler received his bachelor's degree from Temple University and his masters and doctorate degrees from Northeastern University. Excellent Read!

I had to purchase this book for a class and wow!, it has made the class much more enjoyable than I thought it'd be.

This book gives you the basics of sociology and what I like about it is that it'll explain something in sociology-terms, but gives you examples that you can relate to and understand. Instead of me skimming through the book to find key words and taking notes, I found myself wanting to read the entire chapters because it really is enjoyable and I was able to learn from it.

Great Product Not So Happy With Shipping

I was very worried that this used book would come looking like it was dragged through the streets. But I was very happy to see that it in fact came perfectly. I could NOT ask for a better book. The only problem I had with this whole ordering process was the shipping. I paid extra for the shipping to be much quicker that the standard because I needed it for my class as soon as possible. But even though I had paid extra it still arrived the same time it would have if I would have used standard shipping. Other than that it was an amazing book I would order from them again just using standard shipping.

This short and succinct book is SO helpful in interpreting cross-cultural interactions between Arabs and Westerners. I have some Arab friends and often found myself very confused about what was going on beneath the conversation. For example, at times I felt I disappointed one of my friends, but couldn't figure out why. This book helped explain the subtleties of conversation and what I said that was misinterpreted. (A quick example of a cross cultural misunderstanding: when someone of an Arab culture asks you for a favor, you are better off saying Yes, Of Course, even if you know you can't do it. Very pleased; great for homeschool use.

This is a very thick good quality workbook with color work pages. I love this workbook because it begins with easier beginner basic map reading and skills and ascends in difficulty and skill in an apt way. There are a number of topics and skills included and each chapter and skill has many worksheets with brief paragraphs that explain each concept and skill. Each page is perforated and the pages are easy to take out and make copies. This book also includes a map and a sticker sheet for rewards.

This book isn’t full of lesson plans, but I homeschool and I use this book to guide me with my lessons for map skills and map reading. I am able to use the paragraphs given on each page as a prompt for me to discuss and demonstrate the concept as well as use the worksheets for reinforcement. I am especially happy to see that each chapter and skill has many topics and worksheets to do. This makes it easy for my boys to understand a given concept. There are so many topics and skills covered that this book will have at least a couple of years of content to cover.

Well Done Geography Worksheets for 3rd Grade

This is one of several supplementary workbooks I got for my daughter when I was homeschooling her for part of her 3rd grade year. There are a ton of worksheets in here, as it is meant to be useable for more then one grade. Clearly, we didn't finish all of them. But the ones we did use, she actually enjoyed doing them. I felt like the explanations on the sheets was adequate. I also felt like it would provide support for grades above the 3rd grade. I didn't have any trouble navigating the sections, but it is a large book that has a lot of different sheets in it, so I would recommend removing the sheets you've completed so you don't have to keep flipping through them as you look for the next thing.

A bit provincial in its approach.

This is a pretty good way to teach (or reinforce) the knowledge of geography, particularly geography of the United States. They can learn about the cities, capitals, terrain, products, and so on about each state. While useful, I don't think this is particularly fascinating. The book also teaches how to read the different types of maps, although I have found that this skill seems to be almost intuitive for most children and they grasp it without effort.

If it had been up to me, I would given the rest of the world a more prominent treatment. I would have made it half US and half the rest of the world. Kids today are aware of news events. I think that it would have made it easier for children to understand international perspectives if they, for example, are taught where Korea or Iran are as well as European cities where there might have been a terrorist attack or a South American country where there might have been a natural disaster. The rest of the world is just glossed over lightly as if not much of interest is likely to be there.

The book presents an overview of RC merchant ship modeling. While the book may be useful for orienting a beginning modeler in the right direction, those that are looking for solid tips and ideas for a particular project will come up lacking.
The color photo on the dust jacket is great. Unfortunately all the photos inside are black and white.
I found the chapter describing hull building to be particualry disappointing. The text was not clear and the diagrams weak.
The author is British and cites products and supplies using British trade names. There is no glossary to help US readers find suitable American equivalents.

A must have for the ship modeller

I found this book to be a great addition to my modelling library, one that I am sure I will refer to time and time again. It is well written, well illustrated, and Tom Gorman's thoughts are very clearly expressed. It is full of very useful information to the average modeller, and I am certain the more expert will find much to interest him or her as well. I recommend it highly.
