About the Author

If You LIke Action Packed Thrillers You Can't Go Wrong With This One!

Wanted by Emlyn Rees is a 2014 Witness Impulse publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Emlyn Rees really knows how to write a good thriller. An action packed plot with all manner of cold blooded bad guys keeps Danny Shanklin in world of hurt and fear for his family.
The Setup
Imagine you were framed and now sought after by several international groups, your life and the life your daughter, who is all you have left in the world, are at stake, and the world is about to be exposed to a horrific hybrid small pox virus by a terrorist group and for kick and giggles the serial killer that took the life your wife and son is beyond a doubt alive and well and still very interested in Danny and Lexie.
My thoughts:
With this many threads going at one time a story can become “ too busy”. But, in this case everything comes together nicely because the author keeps the spotlight on Danny and the events unfold in real time. The germ warfare plot is one that always makes me nervous. I am terrified of this becoming a reality, because in truth, some people will do anything for money and terrorist are more than willing to pay. This thought alone could keep you up at night. But, imagine trying to prevent an outbreak of small pox while being hunted for a crime you didn't commit and your face is all over the television to boot and your worst enemy in the world gets thrown into the mix as well as your teenage daughter and her angst . This makes for a taut, no holds barred suspense thriller that grabs you from the first page with the reminder what Danny has already lost then moves quickly into the present day nightmare he is in living in. The story is genius and plays upon our worst nightmares. It's very tense, so read this one when you can give it your full attention, because you don' want to miss any part of it.
You can't help but like Danny and feel for him because of all he has lost and the domino effect that keeps his daughter from living a normal life. We all like the protagonist to have principles and Danny does, but he will do whatever is necessary. But, even Danny has weaknesses and is not infallible. As with any good thriller there are plot twist and has an ending that will have you writing this author begging him to hurry up with the next book in the series. You will root for Danny all the way and hope he will get a little break, but alas, it looks like Danny still has some unfinished business. I can't wait to find out what happens next! If you like action packed thrillers you can't go wrong with this one. 5 stars

Riveting and suspenseful!

The plot of Emlyn Rees' suspenseful thriller Wanted involves a global threat that is terrifying and one we can only imagine...terrorism by germ warfare. Replete with a level of detail which is a tribute to the author's creativity, readers are led on a heart stopping chase by Danny Shanklin, a wanted man who is trying to chase down a group of terrorists who are nothing more than mercenaries with loyalty only to themselves while he himself is being chased by several acronym agencies. Danny is not only being chased by the authorities for a crime he didn't commit, but by a Satanically evil killer known as the Director who is responsible for the brutal murders of his wife and son, and who can't bear the thought that Danny and his daughter escaped the same fate at his hands. The Director isn't just a killer...he is a game player who gathers his victims and makes them watch each other die. The Director drops out of sight after his colossal failure with Danny's family, but now he's back and not only must Danny deal with his own precarious situation, but he must try from a distance to protect his daughter from almost certain death at the hands of a killer who won't rest until she and her father are dead. The best word to describe author Emlyn Rees' writing style is riveting. Danny Shanklin has gotten himself into a heck of a mess through no fault of his own and from the first page to the dramatic ending, readers are caught up in a tangled web of intrigue with a lot of not-so-nice characters chasing each other and Danny. There is so much detail, it's like the rapid fire from an automatic weapon. No one can be trusted and few are who you think they are, so you are left on the edge of your seat knowing that just around the curve a serial killer, a terrorist or a deadly germ may reach out to grab you. Readers who enjoy thrillers, espionage and lots of suspense with an international flavor will find Wanted a worthy entry to the genre.

I liked the first book and the writing is fantastic

This latest book by Emlyn Rees is the second in the Danny Shanklin series. I liked the first book and the writing is fantastic, but…I had the sinking feeling with book one of “I’ve been here and read this before”. I had high hopes with the second book, and although it was a solid read I found that by the end it just felt like that special something was missing. Having said that it was still an incredibly fast paced book that kept me turning the pages.
Danny Shanklin is on the run, following a terrorist atrocity, which he was framed for. From the very beginning you go in at full pelt with more than one thread to follow. Danny has to follow the threat of a deadly virus falling into the wrong hands. In addition to this a ruthless and evil killer who goes by the name The Director is also chasing Danny. I absolutely loved Danny’s sidekick named Spartak and thought he added to the story in a big way.
The other really great thing about this book is that it keeps you thinking about the next turn and there are plenty of plot twists to keep you guessing. I finished this book in a day and a half and it has that high octane kind of energy about it. I’m trying to really pinpoint what it is I thought was missing and I really cant work out what it is. The writing is first class, and I really like the character of Danny Shanklin. The stories are always well thought out and well paced, so in all honesty I can’t explain why I feel like that. I think that with the addition of more books in this series they can only get better. It really was an enjoyable book and certainly one for fans of the Simon Kernick kind of books, so definitely recommended.
