contemporary guardian-ward romance

Heroine has been in love with her guardian Hero since she was 15 & set out to make him notice her as a woman since she became his ward at 17. Unfortunately he didn't see her as a potential lover & even sent his various girlfriends-of-the-moment to vacation with her instead of taking him herself. The one time he did take her himself ended up with heroine declaring her love for him & proved to be embarrassing for both of them. Now at age 19 heroine is resigned that Hero would never see her as a lover. She wants to be independent from him now instead of waiting 2 more years before she has full legal control of her inheritance. But Hero doesn't think she's capable of protecting herself from fortune hunters so he proposes a marriage of convenience until she's 21. Heroine takes advantage of their temporary marriage & tries to make him love her. Her plan seems to work especially when Hero finally makes love to her. But the reappearance of Hero's old girlfriend instills doubt re: the permanence of their marriage.

Heroine may sound like a doormat but she wasn't. She just knew what she wanted & went for it. It showcased her inner strength (her stubbornness, resilience, & positive view of problems) to not be discouraged by Hero's lack of interest in her as a lover for the 2 years she lived with him as his ward & the 1st year of their marriage. She wasn't self-pitying. When she gave her best shot at something & it didn't work out, she moved on to her next plan.

I liked that we get both Hero & heroine's POVs. I could clearly see where their misunderstandings were & rooted for them to figure them out at some point. I liked that Hero chose to be celibate during the 2nd year as heroine's guardian b/c he was done with his casual-sex lifestyle. He didn't stray during their 1st year of their celibate marriage either. Once he realized he was in love with her, he tried his best to win her love. He was a sweetheart of an alpha Hero.

Just Ok!

So, I chose this book because it had a "marriage of convenience" storyline.

I must say that I found the book to be just ok.

I first felt sorry for the female character, because she had lost her parents at a young age and was stuck with a grandparent that was overly critical about any and everything she did, and just really didn't want her around, and therefore, requested that the make character take over the raising of the girl as a teenager. But then as the story went on (years passing) the female character really got on my nerves with all the unnecessary bad behavior, whining, and misunderstood communication with the male character.

With the male character I first applauded him for taking on the care of the female character, and again as time when on, I didn't quite understand how he could misunderstand some of her actions, as well as be bad with his communication, considering he was a successful business man.

As I said above this book was in my opinion just ok.

About the Author
Stephen Cecchetti is currently Professor of International Economics and Finance at the International Business School, Brandeis University, and Director of Research at the Rosenberg Institute for Global Finance. Professor Cecchetti received a S.B. in Economics from M.I.T. in 1977, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1982.

Macroeconomics As Seen From The Fed

This is an excellent undergraduate text on financial institutions and monetary economics. The exposition is rigorous yet avoids abstruse math. The best part is the section on monetary economics, where the author dispenses with IS/LM analysis and instead directly analyzes aggregate supply and demand. He writes from the perspective of a central banker (which he was), showing how central banks use interest rates to influence inflation and output. The writing is quite clear, and the numerous sidebars on historical and contemporary issues are excellent. Although some subjects (such as exchange rates) could have been developed in greater depth, this is a great textbook overall.

Ideological footnote: Many undergraduate econ books assume (more or less explicitly) that disturbances in the macroeconomy are eventually self-correcting. This book has a somewhat different starting place: it takes it for granted that regulators will oversee the banking system and that central bankers will act to close output gaps and keep inflation under control (in fact, the latter assumption is built into the author's construction of the aggregate demand curve). According to the author, modern central banks have developed a fairly good understanding of business cycles and know how to moderate them through the use of monetary instruments. Let's hope he's right.

Well written and with clarity

I've read the books of Mishkin and Hubbard, also well written pieces.

However, Cecchetti seems to be able to explain concepts with more clarity and in a way that makes one remember the various theories long after reading the book.

He should try to develop further the chapter on futures and give more emphasis on hedging, since this is the trend financial markets are moving towards these days, without having to impinge on books devoted solely to the topic.

He may also want to expound more on the chapter covering foreign exchange and international markets, to make the book more relevant to international readers.

on the chapter on monetary policy, since he touched on foreign central banks he may also wish to write about how other countries implement monetary policy, esp how the Bank of England uses the repo market to conduct money easing/contraction.

Am looking forward to a much-improved version in the future.

I love English collocations!

I truly love studying and collecting collocations. Also, I love dictionaries which show how to use them and am always ready and willing to buy a new dictionary which provides more examples of words that occur and work together.
In the first place, I need to say that the LCDAT, truly excellent though it is, is not (nor is it intended to be) a fully comprehensive dictionary and its list of entries is not exhaustive. The dictionary is really great and beautiful (let me repeat, great and beautiful!) , and the idea of adding a thesaurus - absolutely marvellous! Yet, I cannot help thinking that it does have a few imperfections which could be very easily removed, corrected or remedied. I think that the most vexatious problem is the conspicuous absence of cross-references to ALL the words contained or included in the dictionary, which would be extremely useful to intended or potential recipients of the dictionary, namely intermediate, upper-intermediate and (almost) advanced learners. To put some substance behind my words, the book contains exquisitely selected numerous examples of collocates (which is absolutely wonderful), yet not sufficiently numerous to satisfy a regular lover of and hunter for collocations. I was somewhat dispirited to find out that quite often only some (not necessarily common) collocates were provided whereas in other cases the collocate was not referenced. For example, under "situation" you will learn that you could "exacerbate" it. But if you want to know what else you can "exacerbate", you will be disappointed as there is no such entry in this dictionary. You could try to reject my argument by saying: You yourself said that it was not supposed to be exhaustive. Yes, the list is not complete or exhaustive, sure enough, it is not to be, but the words that have been so meticulously selected and exemplified as the typical English speaker's vocabulary should be handled more carefully and properly. Of course, it is too late to change the paper version of the dictionary. But I think it is still possible to provide all these kind of collocates and references in the online version at http://collocations.longmandictionariesonline.com/lcdt/collocations. I therefore think the online version of the dictionary should be systematically expanded and regularly updated so that a diligent student of collocations may be able to learn all the words contained in the dictionary with their possible collocations. This would be tremendously helpful and useful and exceedingly persuasive to those who might like to renew their subscription once the current one has expired.

About the Author
Dr. Edward A. Le was born and raised in Lam Dong, Vietnam. He left Vietnam and came to the U.S.A. as a refugee at the age of eighteen. He enrolled first at the University of Washington and then at other universities in the US and completed his doctoral degrees. He has taught, researched, and worked both in industry and universities. He has traveled and worked in different countries and experienced different cultures. Up until now he has experienced different suffering and tragedy. Now, he is at a different path and stage in his life in terms of family, economically and health but managed to make it through these trials.

One of the Best Book I have read

If you are a new immigrant in a new country. If you think your life was filled by all of the challenges and difficulties. If sometime in your daily life, you feel tired and want to give up. Let's get the Dr. Edward Le's "The Road to Success: Gaining happiness in the new country" book, I'm really sure that you will find much of happiness in your life. This is one of my favorite books ! Read this book, I saw myself in it, I saw all of the challenges I have faced and overcame ! I know that in the future, I will have to face with many difficulties and challenge, but Dr. Edward's book will help me to find the happiness in my life ! The all things I can tell you now that you will not disappoint to buy and read this book ! Let this book be your friend on your road to success. !!! By the way, Thank you Dr. Edward Le for sharing all of your memories and experiences ! They are really helpful and I appreciate this ! In Edward Le’s book “The Road to Success: Gaining Happiness in a New Country” (2015), he provides a detailed history of his life. He notes that at age 18 he was a refugee from Vietnam, overcoming a background of adversity, trials and tribulations to experiences with high levels of family, health, education and finances. He recalls “Up until now he has experienced different suffering and tragedy." A very interesting depiction of an authors struggle through life. A rare piece about the struggle of an Asian immigrant in strange land, as a matter of fact this book is reminscent to Makibaka 2 by Roy Morales and I suggest reading both materials.

Good. But not what I expected.

I have loved all of Jaide Fox's novels and am an avid fan. I was initially excited to see another Alien book coming out but was a little disappointed with this one. The first few chapters were great. The new female characters,three this time, and their predicament. The story line was good too but then it dropped. Like it was being rushed to the end. I thought the main character Jasmine was spicy and tough but what happened toward the end of the book had me wondering if I knew Jasmine at all. I found that I liked the secondary character, Samara, better.

This book felt like it ended too soon and left me unsatisfied. Was it supposed to? I felt that it just stopped, the story tied up neatly with it's happily ever after.

There is an epilogue that has stirred my curiosity all over again about this series and the next one will probably be better that this one. I still love the author and will continue to buy her books. This one just wasn't one of my favorites.

A well-written indie interracial science fiction romance novel

This book deserves 3 stars as a well-written indie interracial science fiction romance novel (what a mouthful)! The series (read the other two Captured by Aliens novels ... which are not as good as this one) is steamy and the heroines (for the most part) are gutsy and smart. Fox is great at telling you stories and reeling you in like a fish through each page. This series has definitely captured my attention and it was hard waiting for this novel to hit the shelves. If you want something to make you laugh a little and suck in your breath at the love scenes, then this quick read is for you. Do I wish it had a little bit more adventure? Yes, but I'm a reader that loves lots and lots of adventure with her alien abduction love stories.

I must add that I initially gave this book 4 stars ... because I loved the story idea and writing style. I had to revise that rating based on my thoughts on some of the ideas spattered throughout the writing. During the alien "assimilation" a black female abductee indicates that she thinks they have a good thing with the aliens -- they're handsome, tall and huge. She tells her cousin that she should re-think trying to escape -- arguing that this is the best they are going to get because look at the percentage of African-American women unable to get married in the U.S?? Huh? Really? A WTF moment for me. There are several other statements made throughout the book that had me shaking my head. Did it detract from the story? Yeah, a little. I'm still a Fox fan, but can't understand some of the sentiments she expressed through her characters.

Jaide has done it again!

I received an ARC for leaving an honest review of this release. When I began reading, the story line was so familiar that I had to check my Kindle to see if I had previously read this story. After checking with no luck, I then checked my book collection and came across Alien’s Captive book 1 in the series. I reread that book and started reading Alien Intent. I loved the smoking hot chemistry between Jasmine & Dar and some of their antics were actually laugh out loud funny. Jasmine was doomed from the beginning, what’s not to love about a big strong sexy man in uniform. My only problem was, not knowing if Jasmine was pregnant but I guess that will have to wait until the next installment. Although this book is a standalone, I would definitely suggest you read Alien’s Captive, Adrienne’s & Ebony’s story that started it all.

Best one yet!

Whoever said that after the first book none are ever a good was so wrong. This series keeps getting better and better. Just when you think the story has to be done because there is no where else for it to go, it goes in a direction you never expected. Once I started had to keep going and read or straight through and WOW! Definitely left me wanting more. (Loving Riley and hoping to see more of him in book 7)

This series gets better and better

Simply a great series that gets better and better. Generally, I'm a space opera fan and not much for supernatural books. However, as a fan of everything about the templar knights aka the swiss guard special forces, I downloaded and started this series. Well, I am continually impressed with these action packed books. In this latest one the author brings forward several of the series secondary characters while giving Cade a bit of a hiatus. Let me assure you though, the level action and page turning suspense remains consistent through this installment and leaves us anxious for the forthcoming search and reunion of the series principle characters. Some reviewers provide more detailed reviews, but I'm not one to spoil a great story. Needless to say, I highly recommend this book and series for all fans of action and suspense books. Even if this is not your usual genre, you'll still enjoy this well written series.

Joe keep us going and left us anxious to follow Anna to find Cade and help the Templar knights win over the adverse on and for all. Never have so few knights faced such true Evil, with the balance between good at such Risk. The angel Uriel was very unexpected and pure ingenious. The battle between good and evil
Is here. Well done and ready for more.! Joe never disappoints the reader. Great job. Strong side of Riley shines through. Brava! A must read!
