Stock Strategies 101

This book is a good basic starter quide. Like taking a class called Stock Market 101. It is a good place to start. I just happened to read this book first then followed it with the Investors guide to technical analysis. It was a terrific double feature and recommend reading these two together. It was worth the money but not fitting the "hot" title.

Some good ideas here....

I checked this book out at the local library and found I was renewing it repeatedly. Finally decided, since it really caught my attention (and I was starting to wear the book out) that I would buy it so I could highlight all the good stuff.
No mistake about it, there's stuff in there I either don't get or may not apply to my trading style....but it's the good stuff that keeps me going back and digging in! It's really a decent read!

Save your money. Never, never waste your funds on the drivel this author produces!!

A profitable trader would never have time enough to write even one tenth the quantity of words this person produces.

Find traders that actually make money to learn from. There are a few that have written good books.

Susan Hall is the most amazing woman I have ever had the pleasure of knowing- her journey of healing herself from cancer is something all people diagnosed with cancer should have access to, seeing how it is possible to beat cancer with an affordable and healthy alternative to chemo/radiation. This is an astounding book.

Grab this book for yourself and/or a loved one and trust this wonderful woman who has already taken the journey to a cure.
I know a woman who used the formula to heal herself of breast cancer and her 5 friends who used the traditional
chemo radiation all died while she is thriving. I know another woman who used this product to cure her skin cancer and

What a breath of fresh air. Who would have thought that curing cancer could be so simple. I truly believe that God has raised Susan Hall to bring hope to those suffering with cancer. This book shows you that you do not need to be afraid. There is hope, there is healing, and there is victory. If you are suffering with cancer, if you are scared, then this is truly a God send to you. Thank you Susan Hall for being obedient to God's calling in your life and for showing us cancer is not a death sentence, but a disease for which there is an actual cure.

Everything you know about addiction treatment is wrong.

I can safely make this statement to most laypeople—plus an alarmingly large number of health professionals—without fear of being contradicted. Why? Because most people know very little about addiction, and what they do know (or think they know) boils down to this: addicts can quit if they really want to; all they have to do is commit wholeheartedly to their treatment, which consists largely of "talking therapy"—individual or group psychotherapy or 12-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous.

That's the sum total of most people's knowledge of addiction treatment. But it's dead wrong. And it's the main reason that the success rate for addiction
treatment is currently only 20—30 percent. This means that 70—80 percent of the participants in any given addiction treatment program will not be successful. No wonder people think that alcohol or drug addiction treatment doesn't work!

Fortunately, recent scientific research has discovered new avenues of treatment by showing conclusively that addiction is a chronic physical disease that attacks the brain, damaging key parts of the cerebral cortex and limbic system. This brain damage cannot be reversed by talking therapies; only select new medications and continued sobriety can do that. But when used together, these new medicines and talking therapies can literally work wonders.

In this chapter we'll look at the new scientific research on addiction and its effects on the brain. (Throughout the book I'll use the word "addict" to refer to both alcoholics and drug addicts, and "addiction" to refer to both alcohol and drug addiction, unless otherwise specified.) You'll learn what happens inside the brain of a person with an addiction, why talking therapy alone doesn't usually work, and how medications can help the brain repair itself, pushing the treatment success rate up as high as 90 percent!

Myths That Lead to Unsuccessful Treatment of Addiction

Addiction is a serious brain disease that has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. The shocking statistics say it all:
According to the 2006 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, about 22.6 million Americans aged twelve or older abused or were dependent on a substance during the previous year (9.2 percent of the population aged twelve or older).
Of these, 15.6 million abused or were dependent on alcohol but not illegal drugs.
3.8 million abused or were dependent on illegal drugs but not alcohol.
3.2 million abused or were dependent on both alcohol and illegal drugs.
Approximately 9—10 percent of children ages twelve to seventeen use illegal drugs, and about the same percentage report binge drinking.
Each year, well over two million adults use pain relievers for non medical reasons.
Over ten million full-time workers between the ages of eighteen and sixty-four abuse or are dependent on alcohol.
There are roughly one million drug-related visits to U.S. emergency rooms every year.
Americans spend close to $20 billion a year on treatment for alcohol and drug problems.
Seventy-five percent of alcoholics never enter a treatment program
Of those who do seek treatment for addiction, 70—80 percent suffer a relapse soon after "graduating" from these programs.

But perhaps the most frightening statistic of all is the death toll. Alcoholism is the third leading cause of death in the United States, right on the heels of heart disease and cancer. And although no one knows exactly how many additional lives are lost to the abuse of and addiction to drugs, the figure is surely in the tens of thousands per year.

Forty-five-year-old Simon, a high-level chemist at a Dallas-based manufacturer, was referred to me by a drug court judge when he was charged with his second DWI and facing a ten-year prison sentence. His life was in shambles. Alcoholism had put Simon's career in jeopardy and played a major part in the dissolution of his twenty-five-year marriage three years earlier. Since that time, Simon's drinking had progressed significantly. Of his three children, only his son was still speaking to him. Both of his daughters had banned him from their homes after he repeatedly showed up intoxicated and frightened their children. And alcoholism was beginning to take a toll on his health. His blood pressure and cholesterol levels were dangerously high, two classic signs of heart disease. And the whites of his eyes had taken on a yellowish tinge, indicating malfunction of the liver. All of these problems, his doctor told him, were directly related to his alcohol use. And yet he had never sought or received any treatment for his alcoholism.

Simon's story is not unusual. A full 75 percent of alcoholics are not in treatment for an illness that causes nearly as many deaths as heart disease or cancer. Why isn't our current treatment system working? At the inception, our ability to prevent and treat addiction is drastically hampered by two myths.

Myth #1: Addiction is a kind of "personality disease." People with addictions are often branded losers, sinners who refuse to face up to their evil ways, or weaklings who can't "suck it up" long enough to throw off their bad habits. The media does much to contribute to this belief. We've all seen the endless parade of stories about Lindsay Lohan, Robert Downey, Jr., Liza Minnelli, and countless other celebrities who bounce in and out of treatment programs. But after spending $80,000—$100,000 a month for treatment, they all seem to race right out to a bar or to meet their dealers, diving head first back into old destructive behaviors. Since they appear to be getting the best possible (or at least most expensive) treatment available, the perception is that it must be their own fault that they can't stay sober; they must not be trying hard enough.

Myth #2: "Talking therapy" is the only significant treatment. Talking therapy is a series of discussions through which the addicted person learns the coping skills needed to deal effectively with stress and other issues related to the addiction. Most health professionals—physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and addiction counselors alike—believe that the best possible treatment for alcohol or drug addiction is some sort of talking therapy, such as group therapy plus individual counseling, coupled with participation in an ongoing 12-step program. Unfortunately, this approach works for only a meager 20—30 percent of patients, a fact that has convinced most healthcare providers that addiction is not treatable.

The first book i have read on this subject that gives hope. My addicted son also read it and now begins to understand why he behaves the way he does he is into a month clean and is continuing to work toward becoming permanently clean. Reccomend this for families dealing with addiction.

Healing the Addicted Brain

It is a book that a friend gave me to help me understand why my daughter was so deep in her alcohol addiction, and was failing in her attempts at recovery. It was so insightful, and helped me understand how the brain works, and how it is the reason, that recovery is so difficult. She has a PHD, is in jail for a DUI, and I kept a copy for myself, and had one sent to her in jail from Amazon.When they are in jail, they won't accept books for inmates other than from a online bookstore. She loves the book, and has used it to share with others in jail with related offenses and addiction issues.

Great self-promotional tool for Dr. Urschel's expensive treatment program

Dear Dr. Urschel, I found the only new information in your book to be about the course of new medications for the addicted and how those medications can aid in recovery. However, I know of no doctors that a person without insurance can go to and get treated with these wonderful breakthrough tools. It appears as though the only place to go for a complete treatment program is your private pay program, and it cost $37,000. And even though you have a "Donate" site on your page that is supposed to fund scholarships, no one has donated. Perhaps maybe you should be the first one, Dr. Urschel. After all, your book did cost me about $15.99, plus tax, plus shipping.

About the Author

Becky Schmidt has made her mark on Hope College volleyball as both a player and head coach, a position she has held since 2004. The 2014 Flying Dutch won more than 20 matches for the 10th consecutive season, culminating in the school’s first-ever NCAA DIII National Championship.

Having coached at both Hope and University of Redlands in California, Schmidt has a winning percentage of .762, ranking her among the nation’s elite coaches. She has twice guided the Flying Dutch to undefeated seasons (16-0) in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) conference play (2005 and 2009). Her 2009 team set a school record of winning 34 matches, a mark equaled in 2014.

In 2008 Schmidt was elected the NCAA Division III representative to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) board of directors. Schmidt is a 1999 graduate of Hope College, where as a middle blocker she was twice voted MIAA Conference’s Most Valuable Player. During her senior year she became the first Hope volleyball player to earn All-American honors.

Schmidt was a graduate assistant volleyball coach at Miami University of Ohio, where she earned her master’s degree in sport behavior and performance. She has coached club volleyball teams in Michigan, Ohio, and California, and in 2002 she coached a USA Athletes International team to a gold medal in Australia’s Down Under Games.

Schmidt lives in Holland, Michigan.

Mike has written a very easy to read

This book is a must read for anyone interested in starting a business or is already a business owner. Heck this book will help you even if you use it for your personal finances. Mike has written a very easy to read, page turner that you will not be able to put down! As a reader of well over 1,000 business books, this one is in my top ten for sure!

I am an accountant, I own my own business and I absolutely love this book! You might be wondering why an accountant would like this book. This book teaches a cash management strategy that runs parallel to using accounting software. Seemingly it is circumventing the system that us accountants love. Well let me tell you why that is plain wrong.

Business Owners: For years, us accountants have been trying to teach our clients the business owners to run their business using the data in their accounting software and for years business owners have failed to thrive and simply manage sale to sale and payroll to payroll. I have personally witnessed these same business owners implement the stupidly simple strategy this book teaches and completely change the trajectory of their business and their financial position. Whether you are brand new to business or have been in business for years, if you take action on the system taught in this book, your life will be forever changed!

Accountants: Read this book before you make a judgment call on this system. I am sure that you will love every page of it. Mike does a great job of explaining all the human psychology driving the Profit First system. He encourages business owners to continue to use their accounting software and their accountants in conjunction with their Profit First implementation. If you embrace this method, it will bring you more business and more clients.

If there is one book you buy as a business owner - this should be it.

I've read countless books on how to improve your business: How to work harder, how to work smarter, how to work longer and how to be focused. We've all read them, correct? This book is not only different, its a difference maker and the content therein can mean the difference between a failed business and a highly profitable business.

Not only does the author provide an easy-to-use formula - so simple a non-financial person can easily understand it and embrace it - but he does so in an engaging, thoughtful and collegial way. As I was reading it, it was like Mike was speaking directly to me and exactly about my business.

I've never read a book that has had as much impact on myself and my business. I highly recommend Profit First for any business of any size that wants to run more efficiently and starting earning more Profit First today!

A game changer

This has literally been one the most powerful and effective books I've read in the last 10 years. Every entrepreneur, at every stage of growth should have a copt. As an entrepreneur, I always knew that there had to be a better way to grow....a far less stressful and more consistent way. Mike Michalowicz gives a straightforward method in this book. Implementing this was painful at first, but the pain is temporary and I am already seeing and feeling the momentum shift.
